The Trent University Students Association for International Development (SAID) invites you to the 9th annual Community Movements Conference. The Conference is an opportunity for students and community members to come together and participate in workshops where academics, professionals, and community leaders will speak about Canada’s stance on pressing contemporary issues. The objective is to create an inclusive space to foster discussion, education, networking and action beyond the conference itself.
‘Migration: Exploring Roots & Routes’ aims to explore the ways in which the issues surrounding migration relate to development in economic, political, social, and environmental contexts. The conference will include a wide range of perspectives in order to offer a multidimensional understanding of migration and the many issues related to it in the Global South and the Global North.
Noted speakers include social justice activist Harsha Walia; Amnesty International Refugee coordinator Gloria Nafgizer; Trent University alumni Tamara Britton studying immigration and refugee settlement at Ryerson University; Peterborough End Immigration Detention; New Canadian Centre refugee coordinator Michael Vanderherburg; Trent University professors Juan Carlos Rochos Osornio, Dan Longboat, Winnie Lem, Feyzi Baban, and Philip Giurlando; and a variety of other guests, workshops, and speakers.
Registration for the conference includes information packages, all meals, and access to all presentations and speakers. For more information, speaker bios, or to register please contact: communitymovementsconference@gmail.com or visit http://saidtrentu.webs.com/
