Humanities 101: Discovering University, Engaging in Discussion, Creating Opportunities to Learn
Trent University Durham wraps up another successful session of Humanities 101
“I thought it was great. So much variety from week to week and really interesting to hear from experts in various fields.” This was just one positive comment, among many, from participants in Trent University Durham’s popular Humanities 101 program.
Setting out to make university and knowledge accessible to anyone, Trent University Durham offered a second successful fall session Humanities 101, which aims to provide access to higher education to those in the Durham Region who might face barriers, either financial or otherwise – and provide opportunities for lifelong learning.
Each week participants attended a free two-hour lecture given by a Durham faculty member, who shared their expertise and generously donated their time. Topics ranged from the History of Comics to Uncovering the Temple of Doom.
“To me Trent is an amazing community partner for offering this program,” said Rick Kerr, Oshawa City counsellor. “I’m so pleased that Trent has this program, it is a wonderful thing to offer.”
"It was really great to be able to run Humanities 101 once again on the Durham campus," said Amber Ashton, manager of campus operations at Trent University Durham, and co-organizer of Humanities 101. "This program gives opportunity to anyone in the community looking to discover education, regardless of their circumstance. We have students coming in who attended some college or university and others for who this is their first time on a university campus. The experience encourages that learning is for everybody."
