Trent Staff, Faculty and Retirees raise over $50,000 for United Way

Celebrating 60 years of ordinary miracles

Organizers of Trent University's United Way campaign are pleased to announce that this year's fundraising efforts raised over $50,000, with pledges still rolling in.

Trent's campaign was co-chaired by faculty representative Janice Millard, Bata Library and staff representative Rod MacDonald from the Audio Visual Services department. The co-chairs were supported by an extensive team of volunteers throughout the university and groups and individuals who donated prizes to the campaign, including Sybil Nunn-Thorn who provided logistical support.

Trent kicked off its campaign in October with its "Celebrity Chefs BBQ." Other events included 50/50 draws, the Ride at the Y, and weekly draw prizes with over 45 prizes donated by staff, suppliers and businesses. The weekly-draw grand prize of a weekend for two at The Irwin Inn was won by Shirley Williams.

"We would like to pay tribute to the staff, faculty, retirees and students who so generously supported this year's campaign, said Janice Millard. Rod MacDonald noted how gratifying it was to witness the level of support our workplace gave to the annual United Way campaign. "My personal highlights were hearing the delighted voice of grand prize winner Shirley Williams and serving up hot dogs (and playful banter!) with the celebrity chefs."
