Trent University and Faculty Association Reach Three Year Collective Agreement

Trent University and the Trent University Faculty Association (TUFA) are pleased to announce the negotiation of a three year collective agreement.

The agreement has been ratified by members of the association and approved by the University's Board of Governors. The agreement is effective July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2008.

Both parties highlighted the solid working relationship that emerged during negotiations to find mutually acceptable resolutions to a number of complex labour relations issues.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • Creation of a Workload Committee to examine specific work load issues.

Wages:

  • Adjustments to the comparator group that will now establish compensation based on salary data from non-doctoral, Ontario-based universities.
  • Wage adjustments to be based on up to date survey information
  • Additional wage adjustments for individuals on the lower wage scales.
  • Increase in the annual Teaching Support Fund used to hire additional resources for marking and student assistance from $6.00 per student to $6.50 per student

Benefits:

  • Increase in eyeglass benefits to $300 per 12 months
  • Increase in Optometrist payments to $50 every two years

Pension

  • Protection of a pension benefit based on the individuals full final average earnings
  • A mechanism which ensures the pension plan meets full funding regulations
  • Increased pension premiums for both the employee (from 5.75 per cent to 6.5 per cent) and employer (from 8.26 per cent to 9.78 per cent). 
  • A memorandum of agreement on notice of retirement, whereby faculty should notify their intentions to retire by October 15.

The agreement covers 283 Trent faculty and professional librarians.
