Register for Trent University's Spring and Summer Recreation Programs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, April 4, 2005, Peterborough

Registration is taking place for Trent University's popular spring swimming lessons, learn-to-fence, and summer camp programs.

Trent Summer Sports Camp

There are still some spaces available in Trent's accredited day camp, which operates in four two-week sessions beginning July 4.  A variety of programs are available, including:

  • traditional sports like basketball, soccer, dance, tennis, squash, and badminton

  • nature and environmental programs

  • mountain biking

The camp offers programs for children and youth from five to 15 years of age, under the guidance of experienced, mature and enthusiastic staff members. Optional evening and lunch programs are available.

Registration is ongoing, and can be done in person at the PSB Wilson Athletic Complex, or by mail. Further information and registration forms are available on the camp's Web site at www.trentsummersportscamp.ca or by calling the Camp Office at 748-1670.

Learn-to-Fence Programs

Children, youth and adults have a unique opportunity to learn the sport of fencing this spring, with the help of Trent University's Varsity Fencing Team.

An eight-week learn-to-fence program is being offered at the PSB Wilson Athletic Complex, to introduce participants to the sport of fencing, including basic moves, footwork, techniques and rules of the blades.  Participants will also learn about the history of this French martial art, and the terminology involved. All activities include a strong emphasis on personal and group safety, and are designed to develop coordination, balance, problem solving skills and fair play.

Three introductory programs are available:  A children's program (for children 9-11 years) will operate Tuesday evenings from 6 – 6:50 p.m., a youth program (for youth 12 – 15 years) will operate Tuesday evenings from 7 – 7:50 p.m., and an adult program (for participants 16 years and above) will be offered Wednesday evenings from 6:15 – 7:05 p.m. A club program for previous participants in the program is also being offered on Wednesday evenings.

To register for the learn-to-fence program, visit the Athletic Department Office at the PSB Wilson Athletic Complex or call 748-1257.

Spring Swimming Lessons

Registration continues for the spring session of swimming lessons at Trent University's Allan Marshall Pool, and spaces are still available in some programs. Trent University offers Red Cross Water Safety programs for infants to adults, stroke improvement and special needs classes, and lifesaving and leadership training.  Trent University is also an authorized test centre for the Coast Guard boater training program.

To register for spring swimming lessons, visit the Athletic Department Office at the PSB Wilson Athletic Complex or call 748-1257.
