Trent University Offers Training for Sport Coaches

Workshops to take place this fall

Trent University's Department of Athletics and Recreation is hosting two training programs for sport coaches this fall.

A Wrapping and Taping Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23 to introduce coaches and sport volunteers to basic wrapping and taping techniques used in the prevention and management of sport injuries. This workshop covers practical techniques, mechanism of injuries, and understanding how to manage and support sport injuries. The workshop will run from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., and the cost is $49, which includes a manual, practice taping supplies, and GST.

Individuals interested in becoming effective coaches will want to take the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 1 Theory coaching course, which will take place November 1 and 2. This 16-hour course is the first step in the National Coaching Certification Program, and covers the principles of coaching such as planning, sport safety, skill analysis, and growth and development. A focus of the program is to teach future coaches to design safe, enjoyable and challenging practices for their athletes, regardless of the sport. Successful participants can become certified coaches following technical and practical training in a specific sport. The cost of the course is $79, which includes a manual and GST.

For more information or to register for these courses, please call 705-748-1257.
