KAWARTHA YOUTH ORCHESTRA GEARS UP FOR EXCITING CONCERT

The Kawartha Youth Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Michael Newnham, is preparing for the third concert of its premiere performance season on Sunday, May 11, 2003.

The program for the afternoon concert includes the Spring Concerto from Vivalidi’s Four Seasons (with violin soloist and Kawartha Youth Orchestra member Laura D’Angelo), the Karelia Suite by Jean Sibelius, Saturday Night Waltz from Rodeo by A. Copland, Andante and Scherzo for Orchestra by Keith Bissell, and the English Folk Song Suite by R. Vaughan Williams.

"The youth orchestra we have formed here in Peterborough is very, very special… and has the potential of being one of the finest youth orchestras in the province," says Conductor Michael Newnham. Orchestra members range in age from 10 to 24 and practice weekly at Trent University.

The concert will be held at 3 p.m. in the Wenjack Theatre, Otonabee College, Trent University. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (with a student card). They are available on campus at the Conference Centre office and can also be purchased at Titles Bookstore, Moondance, or by calling the Kawartha Youth Orchestra at (705) 652-0263.
