TAS STUDENTS GEAR UP FOR ROBOTICS COMPETITION

A team of students from Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School (TAS) is ready to build a competitive robot for the FIRST Canadian Regional Robotics Competition in March, 2003.

Team members will attend a kick-off event tomorrow, Saturday, January 4, at the Ontario Science Centre and obtain a kit containing parts to be included in the robot’s construction. The team can then proceed with the task of designing and building a robot for the high-level competition.

The TAS team is able to participate in this prestigious Canadian event through sponsorship from General Electric Canada, Fleming College and Trent University.

The mission of the FIRST Robotics Competition is to inspire curiosity and create interest in science and mathematics among high school students, by immersing them in the world of engineering and showing the important connection between classroom lessons and real world applications. The robots constructed by each team will compete in task-oriented drills at the Hershey Centre in Mississaugua from March 27 - 29, 2003.
