Aboriginal Approaches To Wellness:
Issues to be Explored in Public Lecture

A public lecture at Trent University on Thursday, December 5 will focus on aboriginal approaches to wellness.

The second lecture in a public lecture series organized by Trent’s Institute for Health Studies, this event will feature guest speaker Rebecca Martell. Ms. Martell is a member of the Waterhen First Nation in Saskatchewan and, since 1985, has been involved with health-related community development work with dozens of First Nation communities in Canada and the United States.

From 1981 to 1985 Ms. Martell was the executive director of the Alberta Indian Health Care Commission. From 1974 to 1979 she was the assistant director of training at the Nechi Institute on Alcohol and Drug Education in Edmonton. Currently Ms. Martell is a member of the National Advisory Committee on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and the Native Mental Health Association of Canada. She is an accomplished facilitator of culture-based training processes.

The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Native Studies Lounge in Otonabee College, and will be followed by a reception hosted by the College. This event is free and open to all members of the community.
