English Historical Documents Online

English Historical Documents Online (EHD) is a comprehensive collection of documents on British history covering the years 500 to 1914.  Originally published in 13 volumes and decades in the making, this resource contains over 5,500 selected primary sources with extensive introductions and annotations by scholars in the field.   Included are statutes, declarations, government and cabinet proceedings, military dispatches, orders, acts, sermons, newspaper articles, pamphlets, personal and official letters, diaries and more.

The extensive indexing in EHD Online was made possible by Routledge’s collaboration with the Institute of Historical Research which indexed and tagged all the documents.  As a result, researchers can browse by subjects such as foreign affairs, political, economic and legal history, religious history, and social history.  Articles can be read online or downloaded in PDF.

Originally acquired some years ago with perpetual access rights through the Library's participation in the Canadian Research Knowledge Network, this resource was recently converted to a new standalone platform by the publisher.
