Bata Library Hosts the Moccasin Mania Exhibit

Posted on October 23, 2013

Thomas J. Bata Library is hosting the two-part exhibit "Moccasin Mania".

"Magnetic Moccasins" features historical moccasins from the R. Glenn Madill Collection at Trent University Library & Archives. A native of Lakefield, Madill (1897-1984) collected many pairs of moccasins between 1922 and 1934 while working for the Dominion Observatory to identify the area of the north magnetic pole. Exhibited alongside the moccasins are contemporary photographs from numerous archives. Many were taken by Madill who documented the people and places he encountered on his journeys.

"Moccasin Madness" is a frenzy of photographs inspired by the Madill Collection. Taken by librarian Marisa Scigliano one fall day, the candid photographs capture the current craze for moccasins with each photograph reflecting the distinct personality of the wearer against pavements at Trent University.

The exhibit is on display at the entrance to Bata Library until Sunday, November 10, 2013.
