Bata Library Winter Update!

Welcome back to all Trent University students and to any new students beginning in January! The Library is pleased to be your place for both individual and collaborative study, discovery and research. It is also a great place to keep warm between classes.

Our Librarians are available to provide research assistance for your papers, essays and reports, as well as provide citation help. We invite you to drop by the library or visit our webpages for more information.

Check out our help guides and tutorials for information on how to best use the library catalogue or how to find journal articles.

Be sure to book early one of our 6 Group Study Rooms. These rooms can be booked by any group of 2 or more students for group meetings or a place to rehearse a group presentation. Group Study Rooms can be booked online for 1 hour/day per student. Each student in the group can book for 1 hour if additional time is needed.

Some reminders for the Winter term!

1) Updated Learning Zones: We are pleased to formally announce updates to our Learning Zones in Bata Library! This year we have simplified the zones - each floor of the library now has its own zone colour - the 1st floor is yellow, the 2nd floor is green, 3rd floor is red (Silent Floor) and the 4th floor is yellow. Snack food is now permitted in all areas of the library with the exception of the 3rd floor (RED ZONE) where no food is permitted.

Along with the simplification of the learning zones, we are also promoting a more collaborative approach to the monitoring of the zones. We have initiated a civility campaign where we encourage students to be respectful of each other and the space we study in by adhering to the zone guidelines. We now encourage peer-to-peer reminders to students who may have forgotten the guidelines regarding noise levels and food consumption. Students are also able to text concerns to the Library service desk. You will find new colourful tent cards distributed around the library with these reminders. We look forward to students' continuing cooperation in making the library a great place to study!

2) Academic Skills Drop in Appointments: Academic Skills instructors will now be offering Monday afternoon and Wednesday evening appointments in Bata Library beginning January 12th. Students can sign up online or the day of the appointment at a sign up sheet in Bata Library outside BL 203. Visit Academic skills webpage for more information.

3) Increases to Library Fine Rates: The Library overdue and lost fine rates increased this year! Please remember to return all Library material by the due date. The new overdue fine rate is $1.00/day. For more information visit the library webpage.

4) Late Night Against Procrastination Event 2: There will be another LNAP (Late Night Against Procrastination Event) at the Library on Wednesday, March 18th, 2015 from 6pm - 11pm. Students can access library and academic skills help, learn more about time management, study skills, as well as coping with stress. More details to come.

The librarians and staff of Bata Library wish all of you a wonderful winter term and look forward to partnering with you to achieve success in your studies.
