Scholarly Resources: Author Credentials

Article title: What Does the M23 Want?

Author: Melanie Gouby

This is a news story - an opinion piece written by a reporter.  There's no evidence that Melanie Gouby has any expertise on the topic she's reporting about.

Her description reads: "Melanie Gouby is a freelance journalist based in Goma. She contributes to the AP, Le Figaro, and Radio Netherlands Worldwide, among others."

This author would not be considered an expert, given the lack of information about her.  This does not mean her article isn't reliable or that the content is not useable.  But it cannot be considered scholarly because the author is not a identified as a scholar with expertise in the subject.

This completes the section on scholarly authors. Return to the Scholarly Resources page or proceed to read about Bibliographies.
