Introduction
Champlain College cornerstone was laid in October 1965 on the Symons Campus of Trent University. Incumbents in the position of College Master were as follows: William Morton, Denis Smith, Brian Heeney, John Burbidge, David Glassco, James McAdam, Martin Boyne (acting), Stephen Brown, and Tina Fridgen (current).
The records of Champlain College were created from the earliest days of planning for Champlain College. Subjects covered include faculty, symbols and ceremonials, campus planning trips to other universities, information and prospectus of History and Canadian Studies courses, correspondence of first master William Morton. Some material on other colleges is included. Early records of Champlain College Cabinet were accessioned as 81-002.

Introduction
The first meeting of the Cabinet of Champlain College took place on April 20, 1966. The purpose of the Cabinet was to act as a student government and to look out for the interests of Champlain College students, as the College was to be opening in the late fall of the same year. Other topics of discussion include the creation of a University wide student union, the creation of a University Publications Committee, and the creation of an Introductory Seminar Committee. The Cabinet was composed of Trent University students with faculty acting as advisors.
