Martyn's mill and dam fonds. --1875-1905. -- 4 maps.

Biography / History

Martyn's (Martin's) mill and dam was situatedbetween Hilliard's Dam and Dickson's Dam on the Otonabee Riverimmediately north of Judge Denistoun's Inverlea estate on thewest side of the River. It was very close to the Otonabee andSmith Townships border. Beside the dam was a grist mill. A numberof maps and plans were drawn up of the dam when a chancery case,Martyn vs. Nicholls, took place December 22, 1874. In the 1870/71"County of Peterborough Directory", published by J.C.Connor, three Martyns: John, M. and Richard are listed as millers.

This fonds consists of four maps, from between1875 and 1905 which depict: Martyn's Mill on the Otonabee River;land flooded by the Otonabee River in Smith Township; the OtonabeeRiver between Dickson's and Martyn's Dams; and the acreage betweenCatchacoma Lake and Gull Lake.
