Custodial History

This fonds was in the custody of Laura Sproule before it was donated to the Trent University Archives.

Scope and Content

This fonds consists of three scrapbooks of assorted clippings covering such topics as: handicrafts, holidays, poetry and song. Also includes attendance records, trustee meetings, teachers contacts and other education related records for School Section No. 10, Brock Township, Ontario.


Title based on the creators of the fonds.

This fonds was donated by Laura Sproule via Ronald Sproule.

Folder 1 - ledger of Charles Sproule, Secretary-Treasurer for Brock School Board, school # 10 - itemized list of expenses, 1868-81; including teachers salary - annual report of school board meetings, 1871-81 - copy of contracts between the school board and teacher, 187-74  

Folder 2 - daily register for recording the attendance of pupils in public school # 10, Brock Township, 1916 - includes section on religious instruction and selected scripture readings for 1916 - outline of instruction to be given in elementary agriculture and horticulture - rules regarding structure of school and sessions

Folder 3 - daily register for recording the attendance of pupils in public school # 10, Brock Township, 1901. This register was used as a scrapbook, clippings of children's stories, animal pictures - register includes list of textbooks authorized for use in public schools - a programme of studies for public schools

Collection also includes 3 atlases shelved in the reading room and 4 other books shelved with the box.
