Borrowing Privileges

Undergraduate and Graduate Students

All currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate student have borrowing privileges upon presentation of a valid TrentU card, obtained through the Campus Card office. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. Lost or stolen TrentU Cards are to be reported to the University Security Office immediately.  

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff who are currently employed at Trent University have borrowing privileges upon presentation of a valid TrentU card, obtained through the Campus Card office. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. Lost or stolen TrentU Cards are to be reported to the University Security Office immediately.  

Retired Trent University Faculty

Borrowing privileges for faculty and staff members are extended upon retirement at no charge. Access to library licensed online resources requires a MyTRENT account, maintained by the University’s IT department. Retirees are required to present a TrentU card or a Library Borrowing card to obtain borrowing privileges. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. A library replacement card may be obtained at the Library Service Desk. Lost or stolen cards are to be reported immediately as follows; TrentU to the University Security Office and Library borrowing cards to the Library Service Desk.  

Visiting Scholars

Library privileges required by a visiting scholar must be arranged by the hosting department. Library access, including licensed online resources will require a MyTRENT account, maintained by the University’s IT department. Depending on the Scholar’s needs, a TrentU card or Library Borrowing card may be arranged.

Alumni

Trent University Alumni Association members are entitled to borrowing privileges at no charge.   Presentation of a TrentU card with an Alumni authentication sticker attached, or a Library Borrowing card is required to obtain borrowing privileges.  Access to our licensed online resources is restricted, based on individual agreements with suppliers.  However some online resources are licensed for Alumni and are accessible via MyTrent login authentication.  Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable.  A Replacement Library Card may be obtained at the Library Service Desk.  Lost or stolen cards are to be reported immediately as follows; TrentU to the University Security Office and Library borrowing cards to the Library Service Desk.  

Academic Reciprocal Users

Faculty, staff and students from the Canadian University Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement (CURBA) participating libraries and Fleming College may borrow library material free of charge. A borrowing card is issued upon presentation of a photo ID and a valid identification card from Fleming College or a participating CURBA university. CURBA students, faculty and staff should check with their home institution to ensure they have the appropriate identification.  Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. Lost or stolen borrowing cards are to be reported to the Library Service Desk immediately. 

Community Users

Community user membership is available to individuals who are a minimum of 18 years of age upon presentation of photo ID and proof of Ontario residency. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. Lost or stolen cards are to be reported to the Library Service Desk immediately.
