Library Study Rooms: Guidelines

The study rooms in Bata Library and the Durham Campus are available for use by registered Trent undergraduate and graduate students, for study or projects relating to a Trent course. 

In Bata Library there are:

  • 12 study rooms, bookable by small groups
  • 1 presentation practice room, bookable by larger groups
  • 5 individual study carrels, bookable by a single person

At the Durham Campus Library & Learning Centre there are:

  • 2 group study rooms, bookable by groups up to 6 people

Room Booking Regulations

  • Students are encouraged to book a room to ensure it's available at the desired time.
  • Rooms may be booked for a maximum of 2 hours at a time, with a maximum number of 2 bookings per day per student.  
  • Rooms may be booked up to 30 days in advance.
  • Rooms may be booked during library open hours only
  • If a study room is unoccupied and has not been reserved, the room may be used by any individual without a prior booking. However, any registered booking will take priority, and individuals can be asked to relocate for students who have booked.
  • Students must observe library regulations regarding noise levels and leave the room in good order.
  • The Library is not responsible for loss or damage of items left unattended in study rooms.
  • The student booking the room is responsible for the cost of repair for any damage to the room that occurs during the period of use.
  • No food or drink is permitted in study rooms. 

Individual Study Booths

There are 5 individual study booths on the 3rd and 4th floors of Bata, bookable through myTrent.

There are also 3 study booths designated for students registered through the Student Accessibility Office. Students with accessibility requirements can obtain the code to these study booths through SAS.

Trent University Durham Campus

The group study rooms at the Durham Campus Library & Learning Centre are also booked through myTrent, for groups of two or more registered Trent students.

Rooms may be booked for a maximum of 2 hours per day per student.
