Consecutive B.Ed.

The Consecutive Bachelor of Education program is a highly collaborative, hands-on program that pays particular attention to the individual learner, in small class settings with a community-based approach. Working closely with Trent University’s Faculty of Arts and Science, the First People’s House of Learning, and educators in the wider community, teacher candidates leave the program with a mindset to make education a transformative experience.

Through their university credits in foundational and curriculum courses, students are exposed to recent advances in theory and research. During their classroom placements they are encouraged to use this expertise to think critically about their own professional practice and to develop a professional identity through attention to individual needs, multiple modes of learning, human diversity, and critical thinking in content areas.

The Bachelor of Education program prepares students to teach in either the Primary/Junior or Intermediate/Senior divisions. Our program consists of:

  • Two teaching divisions – Primary/Junior level (K-Grade 6) and at the Intermediate/Senior level (Grades 7-12)
  • Full-time and in-class program over 2 years (four terms) in length
  • The program runs from the first week of September through to the middle of April, reflecting the school term calendar. You will have a summer break between Year 1 and Year 2
  • Ability to focus on an area of interest through elective courses
  • Approximately 115 days of teaching experience for practicum and alternate settings placement
