Trent University Archives collects, preserves, and provides access to a diverse range of archival materials that reflect the unique experiences, achievements, and contributions of individuals and organizations associated with Trent University and the broader Peterborough region. We are also responsible for Special Collections, a collection of rare books and local titles. Our collections support the university's management, teaching, and research, and the research needs of the broader public.
Archival Collections
The Archives holds more than 1200 archival collections that document Trent University; document the people, cultures, lands, and waters of the region; and support teaching and research at Trent.
Special Collections
Special Collections includes 13,000+ rare books and titles that support research in Indigenous cultures and languages, histories of the book, Canadian studies, Northern studies, literature, local history, Trent University, and more.
Research Guides
Research guides can help you navigate our vast collections. They are created to support research by topic (ex: Trent University, genealogy, camp research) and format (ex: maps or historical newspapers).
Access our Collections
The Archives is free to access to anyone, including the general public. Staff are available to provide research advice, retrieve collections, and support digitization. We also host tours, class visits, and archival workshops.
Trent University Archives is guided by the Archives Policy (2021) and the Special Collections Guidelines (2024). We have two named areas: Northway Reading Room, and Michael Treadwell Special Collections and Rare Books Room. We are institutional members of the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) and the Archives Association of Ontario (AAO). Follow us on Facebook.
