Trent University has a long-standing reputation for being a Green Campus
Trent’s Sustainability Office (SO) was established in 2007 to address impacts of our expanding campus. Our mission has always been collaborative, involving students, faculty, staff, and the local community in developing and implementing sustainable solutions. From the start, our mandate has focused on minimizing the environmental impacts of Trent’s campus, integrating real-world sustainability connections into the classroom to support faculty and students, and creating active partnerships to support local community sustainability initiatives.
Our efforts extend across the university, and the results of these efforts have been significant. Since 2007, even with a 70% increase in student population and a 14% increase in building space, we have achieved:
- ~20% reduction in GHG emissions,
- ~40% decrease in water usage,
- ~20% reduction in waste sent to landfill per person, and over
- 30% increase in waste diversion.
We are extremely proud to provide leadership to the Trent community supporting these achievements. We also recognize that there is always more to do. Sustainability is a continuous journey, and we invite you to join us in our ongoing efforts to support Trent’s leadership in advancing sustainability.
