What is Cultural Studies?
Cultural Studies provides students with the theoretical and practical tools to critique and create culture. Rather than focusing on other cultures, we focus on our own – on the ways that culture quietly and continually shapes society, usually without our notice. This means that we are concerned with a very wide range of cultural objects, institutions, and phenomena: whether games or graffiti, print or painting, music or media, or drama or dance, we ask how it came about, how it affects us, and what it tells us about society.
The Experience
We study culture through theory and practice in equal measure, giving students the chance to think by doing.
Programs
We offer undergraduate and graduate programs that interrogate art, literature, media, and more.
